Mens fashions are always a bit tricky for me. How many pairs of jeans and dress shirts can I buy my husband? I guess what makes menswear kind of boring and monotonous is that there’s not much variance season after season. That’s also what makes it great though. If men are smart with shopping, they don’t need a whole lot in their closet to complete looks. I know, I know there are some men out there that are just as bad a women when it comes to fashion, but in my household, getting my husband out to go shopping for himself is like pulling teeth.
I’ve labeled this blog “Part 1″ because in building a man’s wardrobe their day to day activities can be categorized into sections. Casual wear, in my opinion, is the most difficult. When men go to work there’s usually a “dress code” they abide by. But on the weekends I find men wearing basketball shorts and long sleeved t-shirts. Not a good look for intelligent, successful men. Keep in mind that lounge wear is for lounging, not for going out and being seen in public. Try to find pieces that can be easily interchanged. I’ll give you the same advice I give women, set a side some time to look at your closet and make an honest assessment on what’s wearable and what’s not. Think in terms of building your wardrobe as well. A few pairs of jeans, some cashmere sweaters, good cotton tees are so easy to throw on and easy to stock in your closet. Simple silhouettes and conservative colors can keep you looking weekend casual but sophisticated savvy. xoxo
Basic colored tees are simple to buy and should be a constant go to. JCrew is a great place to find an assortment of washes, colors and cuts.
Jeans are a staple! Try to have a few different pairs. Dark wash, med wash and distressed for weekends are safe bets.
Casual “dress” shirts are a good alternative to t-shirts. I like a bit of a worn look or maybe an upscale flannel. Again JCrew is a great option.
A cashmere hoodie is a piece that will cost you more money, but adds so much sophistication to distressed jeans and a tee.
A think every man needs a really great leather jacket. Again, this is not a “cheap” item, but can be worn so many different ways. Looks great layered over the cashmere hoodie.
