Summer Glow

IMG_6024We’ve hit the ground running with summer temps. It’s hot, humid and not very friendly for skin care and maintenance. Summer, and winter for that matter, are difficult seasons to navigate skincare. The summer sun causes damage, to much oil production as well on the other side of the coin, dry skin. What’s the best way to keep an even-ness when it comes to our skin?…I believe it comes from simple, consistent skin care. Now is not the time to get fussy. Especially with the humidity, layering serum after serum will only make you feel sticky, greasy and in the end look old.

Because everyone has different skin care issues, taking a look at your skin and deciphering what it needs and lacks, is key. If you’re heavy on the oil production, like me, stick with light oil free products. I like organic serums that help repair the skin and then add a light weight (oil free) sunblock on top. Sunblocks can be tricky because so many of them are so thick. Because I’m so oily, I forego any moisturizer and I use the sunblock over my serum to give my skin the moisture that it needs.

If you have dry skin, adding a moisturizer over your serum and under your sunblock will give you a lasting glow without looking greasy. Again look for an SPF on the oil free side. Regardless of your skin type, keep the oils separate and out of your SPF.

Whether oily or dry, a retinol at night is a must for turning over your skin cells. Keeping your cells “new” is key if you want to achieve a glow. It’s definitely a piece of the puzzle. If you’re dry, add moisturizer to your retinol, if you’re oily you probably won’t need any added moisture.

SkinCare

Of course topical skin care isn’t the only trick for glowing skin. What’s happening on the inside is just as important. Supplying your body with antioxidants (fruits and veggies), staying hydrated and moist importantly, getting your head right, are all keys in unlocking beautiful skin. Trust me, if you’re not glowing from within, it doesn’t matter what you put on. Just some food for thought. 😉  Happy Hump Day xoxo

From the Ground Up

Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 10.16.47 AMIt’s been a while since my last post. I keep telling myself I need to sit down on a regular basis and write (wrote an amazing best high pressure shower head guide last week, btw)…unfortunately life takes over and my writing takes a backseat. So much is happening at the moment, I almost feel overwhelmed on where to start. We’re at the final stages of architectural planning, and at the beginning phase of construction. I cannot tell you the excitement I feel of finally being able to design our own space, with the help of builders Plymouth, of course.

The creative process of bringing a vision to life, has been and is, part of my DNA. Whether it’s working with clients, designing our own home or starting a new business venture, the creativity that follows a vision is really what fuels my whole being.

I love how my husband reminds me that everyday is another opportunity to design and live creatively. Outside noises and negativity wreaks havoc not only on my spirit but also on my creative process. Staying open and grounded to what’s real and true is the real work in staying and being creative. I’m so looking forward to this next stage of chaos…lets be real, there’s a lot of chaos in creativity. 😉 Nevertheless, I welcome the path that’s unfolding in front of me and I look forward to sharing in the journey. On the flip side take an inventory on what fuels you, creativity does not only live in the “creative” space.  Happy Hump Day, xoxo
