Summer Glow

IMG_6024We’ve hit the ground running with summer temps. It’s hot, humid and not very friendly for skin care and maintenance. Summer, and winter for that matter, are difficult seasons to navigate skincare. The summer sun causes damage, to much oil production as well on the other side of the coin, dry skin. What’s the best way to keep an even-ness when it comes to our skin?…I believe it comes from simple, consistent skin care. Now is not the time to get fussy. Especially with the humidity, layering serum after serum will only make you feel sticky, greasy and in the end look old.

Because everyone has different skin care issues, taking a look at your skin and deciphering what it needs and lacks, is key. If you’re heavy on the oil production, like me, stick with light oil free products. I like organic serums that help repair the skin and then add a light weight (oil free) sunblock on top. Sunblocks can be tricky because so many of them are so thick. Because I’m so oily, I forego any moisturizer and I use the sunblock over my serum to give my skin the moisture that it needs.

If you have dry skin, adding a moisturizer over your serum and under your sunblock will give you a lasting glow without looking greasy. Again look for an SPF on the oil free side. Regardless of your skin type, keep the oils separate and out of your SPF.

Whether oily or dry, a retinol at night is a must for turning over your skin cells. Keeping your cells “new” is key if you want to achieve a glow. It’s definitely a piece of the puzzle. If you’re dry, add moisturizer to your retinol, if you’re oily you probably won’t need any added moisture.

SkinCare

Of course topical skin care isn’t the only trick for glowing skin. What’s happening on the inside is just as important. Supplying your body with antioxidants (fruits and veggies), staying hydrated and moist importantly, getting your head right, are all keys in unlocking beautiful skin. Trust me, if you’re not glowing from within, it doesn’t matter what you put on. Just some food for thought. 😉  Happy Hump Day xoxo

Aging…

FullSizeRenderNone of us can escape the “dreaded” aging. We’re told that 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s are the new something, whatever that means! Regardless of what propaganda is being sold to us, the fact still remains we are the age we are. So what do we do about it? We’re bombarded with quick fixes, youthful images, that by the way are under the age of 20, and a society that still, no matter how many times we tell ourselves is changing, values and idolizes perfection in beauty.

Well, the reality is perfection does not exist. Not anywhere in the world have I come across perfection. Not in beauty, sports, business or just plain life. But somehow we get sold that striving for perfection is what’s going to make us happy. Looking younger than our age, having a body that defies gravity and a head of hair that looks like a horses mane is what we’ve been sold is the pinnacle of beauty.

Well people, it’s all BS. What we see day in and day out is fake sh*t. Everything from fake photos to fake hair run our social media feeds. I struggle with this daily. I, just like everyone else, like beauty. Of course, we’re all drawn to a perception of what beauty is, and I totally believe it’s okay to bleach, inject and smooth whatever your heart desires. But honestly, where does true beauty come from?

I completely believe it comes from within. The radiance, the confidence and the inner stillness is what permeates true beauty. We’ve all seen it, heck we’ve all experienced it on those days that we feel perfectly balanced. You can’t buy that inner glow. For that inner glow, you have to work for it. Hat tip to my friend Roger for making me realize this.

What does that mean? It means, do the work to get to know who you are. Not just surface stuff like what you like to eat, to drive or what designer bags you like. But who are you at the core? What drives you to be a better person? What lessons and legacy’s do you want to leave the one’s that you will one day leave? I know I know, kinda heavy, but this could be a starting point to bring inner happiness which I guarantee will bring inner glow.

Trust me, I’m no expert. I try to learn everyday from my experiences, my mistakes and others who at different times may be doing it better than me. Growth happens at every stage. Our bodies may not necessarily like the “growing” but I guarantee if we feed our minds our bodies won’t care sagging behind us. Take a few minutes everyday to sit in your stillness. Breath in the success you are and are becoming. It may not be easy at first, but like with anything practice makes precise (not perfection.) My husband gave me that line. 😉 Make sure you read my lastest article about breast enhancement pills reviewed by Samanta. Happy Monday! xoxo

No Make-Up, Make-Up

096c242934c580060dc99e4c2b2b5ca5As we’re heading into summer there are many changes that take place. Our pace slows a bit, closets get a re-vamp and beauty regimens are tweaked to accommodate oilier skin and frizzy hair. With the higher temps, make up tends to melt and become cumbersome, so the no make up, make up not only is ideal but almost necessary to not end up looking like a pancake face.

Trying to keep our skin clear of blemishes and controlling the oil is usually the goal. Finding an oil free cleanser and exfoliating at least twice a week is key. Once we find a cleansing programing that works, we want to enhance our complexion with a minimal amount of product. BB creams are the best choice over any heavy foundation. They even out complexions and add a healthful glow that works well when we’re carrying around a bit more sun. Finishing the look with mascara, a creme blush, and lip balm will enhance our natural beauty and carry us through august. Have a great week! xoxo

Fire it Up

balenciagaFor the last couple of seasons long, pointed, dragon like nails have been the shape of the moment. I personally cannot go there, not only because the safety of my child comes first, but being able to wipe my butt is important to me! Ridiculous trends come and go and I’m happy to see this one go. It looks like the more understated square/round shape is making it’s way back. Although I’m not sure it ever left, as you can never go wrong with a clean, classic line.

Whether you tend to keep your manicure neutral or like to add some color, my eye at the moment is loving a bright candy apple red. Polishes have gone under a big transformation in the last decade. Taking out formaldehyde and other toxic chemicals has been a priority.

RGB nail care has done just that in eliminating 5 toxins. No formaldehyde, No Toluene, No DBP, No camphor and No formaldehyde resin. They even go a step further by being vegan, cruelty free, gluten free and responsibly made in the U.S.A. Not only have they made their brand appealing to a thoughtful consumer, they also make a killer red. Check it out. Happy Hump Day! xoxo

Bangin…

Freja-Beha-Erichsen-by-Terry-Richardson-05Every year spring marks a rebirth, new beginnings. I start getting a bit neurotic with cleaning, donating, looking for new must have items and an overall look change. I normally am not a drastic jump before I look kinda girl, but I do like to shake it up every once in a while.

Lately, hair bangs have been my newest obsession. Especially worn with loose curls and a choppy layer, bangs can add edge to a good girl look. I will forever be that 70’s hair, long and parted down the middle groupie, but I just may be looking for a little more fringe in my life. Happy Tuesday! xoxo

Glowing

bronze-Kors-bbt-S14-007Summer has arrived, and with it comes a more relaxed way of living.  From less make up to easy BBQ’s, summer’s are meant for slowing down and taking a few extra moments.

For me, the less is more attitude definitely shines during this time of year.  And with that, a clean, glowing, make up free face is perfection.  The warmer temps and higher humidity brings a natural moisture that often times needs a little taming, but I’ll take a shiny forehead over dry creases any day.  Keep your routines simple and don’t forget the sunblock.  xoxo

Nice Buns!

streetstyle7925-webWe’re making our way towards spring and that usually means a more laid back approach to beauty and fashion.  As temps rise and humidity starts to wreak havoc, we need sure fire styles to keep our mane under control.

Chignon’s and buns are not just for grandma’s anymore.  The 21st century re-vamp has made buns ultra cool and sophisticated.  Whether pulled low at the nape or high on the crown, wrapping our hair up has made skipping shampoo’s that much easier.  xoxo

Being Blunt

tousled-mid-length-haircut-one-season-hottest-looksA common trend of last nights Golden Globes has to be the blunt cut.  From Reese Witherspoon to Naomi Watts, quite a few celebrities sported their version of a bob.  Long hair has taken center stage for what seems like forever, but lately we’ve seen some daring “chopping” going on.  Pamela Anderson, Jennifer Lawrence and Karlie Kloss just to name a few.  I wouldn’t necessarily call a blunt cut daring, but it’s nice to finally see something other than long and straight.  Happy Monday!  xoxo
