It was so nice to have 5 consecutive days to do nothing…or everything, depending on how you look at it. My husband travels so much for work that we made a conscious decision to stay home this summer and it started with the 4th of July weekend. My nephews were in town for two weeks and that was the beginning to the lazy days at the beach, multiple movies, sporting event outings and we even celebrated my sons 9th birthday. It’s amazing how just a couple of days of R&R rejuvenates not only your mind and spirit, but the extra sleep and stress free days creates a whole new glow through your skin and eyes.
As we keep traveling through the summer, not all our weeks will be filled with stress free, lazy days, but it’s important to do things that can help rejuvenate. A few habits I’m trying to follow this season are, staying away from buying plastic water bottles. I know, I know we all know this, but how often do we run out of the house without our eco friendly bottles and end up buying a bottle of water on the road? It’s really so bad for us on some many levels.
Trying to eat as cleanly as possible is my second commitment this summer. Eating fresh fruits that are in season is my goal. Frequenting my local farmers market on Sunday needs to become a weekly habit. What we eat is so reflected on how we look and feel, and we don’t take enough time to really look at what we’re putting into our system. I’m not only talking about buying organic, there’s so much more that goes into proper nutrition.
My third habit is finding me time to meditate. I’m incredibly bad at it but it makes me feel so good when I can quite my mind and reflect on what my body is telling me. It doesn’t take much to reap the benefits. If two minutes is all you have, go for it. I’m telling you it’s a game changer.
It takes work and commitment to turn these tasks into habits, but I encourage you all to come up with your own lists of “me” items so that we can continue to have that inner glow that so easily dissolves as we fall back into our busy schedules. Hope you all had a great 4th!
