Throw Me a Line

fishermansweater111I was talking to a friend this morning and because we are literally into fall, we felt we had all the right in world to complain about the 80 degrees outside. The consensus? We’re over it! Being stuck in tank top groundhog day is getting old and we’re ready to move on with colder (seasonal) weather.

With that said, sweater weather will be among us soon, so why not at the very least talk about it. The WSJ had a great article on the “classics” as it pertains to fashion and what to collect now including these LED Chemion Glasses reviews. Honestly, I take these articles with a grain of salt, as just last year the WSJ announced the death of denim due to the yoga pant invasion. So whether you chose to listen or not, it’s all just insight.

The fisherman’s sweater is one of those WSJ classics, and I admit, I agree with them. It’s a piece that has been around for decades and even though the style has never changed, it keeps having it’s “moment.” What has changed however, is the polyester of the 70’s has changed into cashmere for the present day. The cozy yarns have made this oldie, goodie again. Worn with ANY trend of the moment, you can’t go wrong channeling “The Perfect Storm”…(George Clooney) 😉 Happy Hump Day! xoxo

Button Up

vogue-sunglasses-street-style-nataie-joos-australian-fashion-week-clementinebayYesterday marked the first day of fall, although at 80 degrees it feels more like the middle of August. I’m not quite ready to read, research or write about sweaters at the moment, but I am ready to transition out of sandals and tanks and into more of a sophisticated fall like wardrobe.

Blouses, for me, are a great transition and hold piece. There’s not one item sexier or more classic than a great blouse. Completely versatile and worn dressed up or down, a blouse brings individual style up a notch. From high end vintage to a more modest H&M find, a great cut blouse is easily accessible and affordable by everyone. As we move into a more sophisticated time of the year, button up and start reaching for those feminine touches. Have a great weekend.  xoxo

Who Are You?…

DSC_9415As I was growing up my parents tried to instill independence, original thinking, a sense of “anything is possible” and most of all to not “believe the hype”. I didn’t always know exactly what they were talking about, or how it related to me, but over time and as I’ve grown older it has become clear.

I wouldn’t say that their skills of how they tried to instill these values were that great, but I think I learned more by their examples of how they lived vs just the word. One statement that always stuck with me was dad would constantly tell me, “Figure out who you are and dress accordingly”. As a teenager I would look at him and think, what are you saying? I would think, ok I’m 16, I know I’m 16, and I really like my Guess jeans! I was good with just knowing that about myself. Obviously that’s not what he was getting at, and it took me a good 10 years to really understand what he was saying.

There’s a lot of clutter in the world that keeps us from really looking inside. And I often feel that society is set up to make it difficult for us to really “see”. It’s much easier to bury our heads in the sand and not drudge our own paths. We have so much “stuff” (social media, societal views, our own crazy wheels in our brains) around us, that it’s difficult to sit in silence and listen to what’s inside.

As I look around and coexist with society I find myself surrounded by anger, lack of common decency and a complete disconnect to others. I’m not writing this blog to bash others or to write that I have all the answers because I definitely don’t, but I’m fed up with the lack of insight that we as a society have. How can we possibly teach our kids to have compassion and respect for others when there’s so little of it being shown on a daily bases. Now, my husband would say that the statement I just made is not entirely true. Yes, maybe there are plenty of examples of shit in the world (my interpretation of what he would say) but how we take in this information, how we respond to it, and how we allow it to impact us is what we have control over. Just because another person may not exhibit the compassion and respect we want, doesn’t mean that we respond in that same disgusting manner. Man, this is a topic that can go on forever! I’m not sure I’m smart enough to go there, so I won’t, but my point!?

I think my dad had/has it right…Figure out who you are and dress accordingly. Spend time in stillness and listen to what’s inside. Don’t believe the hype that other’s want you to believe. Get to know who you really are and what you’re about so that you are clear when weeding out the crap and recognizing the gems. Change starts with one person, I challenge all of us to be that person. We may not be able to control the chaos around us, but we can control how we move around it. This is a life long journey, not a weekend retreat…And to all the noise that’s around…We control the volume. 😉 Happy Hump Day. xoxo

A Jean Story…

OD-BE268_DENIM_G_20141031111132If you believe everything that you hear, you would of thrown out all of your denim because “denim is out”. Last year, according to NBC news, The Today Show and even the WSJ all reported that denim has seen their day and that the yoga pant was replacing them…blah, blah, blah. Thankfully, I believe it to not be the case and denim has even had an up tick with vintage levis leading the charge.

Denim has definitely evolved over the past 10+ years. Some of that evolution has been life changing and some of the change has stripped away the classic styling of what denim was. Even though the introduction of elastane was an amazing push forward, I find the non denim, “denim” fabrics to be underwhelming. The big denim brands, JBrand, AG, Rag and Bone etc have kind of hit a plateau. I find the fabrics monotonous and boring and the fit just to be okay. I’m not sure where the next big denim trend will be coming from, but for now I find myself reaching for my trusted, 100 % real denim, vintage levis. Happy Tuesday! xoxo

White Out!

NYFW-Streetstyle-All-White-annina-mislinIt’s been hot!, is in understatement. When it reaches over 80 degrees at the beaches you know we’re in a heat wave. For anyone that knows me, it’s well known that my closet is draped in black. Although it’s sprinkled with grey’s and navy’s, there isn’t a whole lot of deviation from the trusted darks. With that said, when the days are what they have been, reaching for a white toga sounds pretty good.

Nothing says summer more than beautiful crisp, clean white pieces. Not only does it keep us relatively cool, but white has an ease and sexiness that looks incredible on glowing tanned skin. I would definitely say that white can bring out some insecurities when it comes to showing flaws, but a sexy cami, a knee length skirt and a pair of great gladiators is a fool proof combo for any shape and size. Enjoy the last few weeks of summer! xoxo

Cover Up!

honest-company-sunscreen-best-natural-kids-sunscreen-bottle-680x453Summer is in full bloom. The longer days, outdoor grilling and a more laid back lifestyle has me feeling like “I’m living the dream” lol. The flip side to living in lala land in my head, is the reality of frizzy hair, oily skin and hiding under hats and sunscreen trying to avoid the skin damaging rays.

Just this week the EWG (environmental working group) released their findings on sunscreen. And among the worsts one’s (causing more damage and being carcinogenic) were those we’ve come to trust over the years. Neutrogena, Coppertone and Banana Boat were at the top of the, do not use list.

I’ve been one to always buy Neutrogena, especially for my husband, so I quickly threw all those out and looked for what brands were safe and effective. Luckily what I wear and what my child wears was at the top of the “yes” list. So I’m hear to share with you my go to’s. Living in California, sunscreen is a year round endeavor. But unknowingly poisoning ourselves, obviously isn’t an option. Have a great tuesday! xoxoLP7423-2 Love Anthelios products. Beach days don’t happen without them.

UVClear520x320Elta MD is what I wear everyday without fail regardless of the season.

The-Honest-Company-logoAnd it’s no secret that I love everything in the Honest line. My son doesn’t leave the house without their sunscreen all over his body.

Summer Sales!

Shopping-Bags-Street-StyleSummer sales are in full effect. Not only can you find “wear now” bargains, but there are many transition pieces that you can find at a fraction of the cost. Be smart with your purchases, look for holes in your closet that need to be filled. Light cashmere’s and layering pieces are always smart buys, platform flip flops on the other hand…keep moving. My dad always taught me, “you can go broke buying sales”, so don’t loose all your marbles when you see SALE! Happy Monday, xoxo.

ETOI-WP18_V2We’ll be seeing a lot more track pants in the fall. This is a good piece to get on sale.

Keep filling those holes slowly!

Lace Up!

tumblr_lva4mfPD7t1qbvm7do1_500Lately I’ve been all about lace. Being that I’m not a girlie girl, lace has never really called my name. But as of recently, and coming from a place of juxtaposition, I’m loving lace with old vintage levis, of course the standard leather pants and maybe even a pair of distressed cords. Lace has changed it’s stripes a bit. I’m not so sure it’s the “good girl” anymore. Have a great weekend! xoxo
